A carnival...then GRANDMA!

Though the rest of us are too busy/tired to notice, Aiden's summer is in full swing. The carnival made it's annual appearance on the New London town green, which was cause for celebration with some cotton candy and super-fast rides. If you want to know just how sticky a 3 year old can get, give him a whole bag of cotton candy to lick, pick, mangle and chew. Then beware when you need to hold his hand to cross the street getting home.

And then after we returned from Gloucester, Grandma Chris arrived! Aiden had lots of fun showing Grandma all the new things he's learned since Grandma last visted, like building robots out of blocks and playing soccer. We also went to a corn maze at Spring Ledge Farm, which made me realize (for the second time) how much I really don't like corn mazes! They're fun for like the first half-hour, and then you are just miserably wandering and hoping that you'll get out of the cornfield before dark. Certainly there must be people who don't get out before dark. Every corridor and dead-end looks the same, so you swear you've gone in circles for hours. Just like the first corn maze we did last fall, we eventually found an "emergency exit" and escaped the madness. I think I've learned my lesson this time! Fortunately Haley was good and slept peacefully in the carrier the whole time.

Grandma Chris was a HUGE help to me this week taking care of Haley. We love our little girl dearly but she is not a mellow baby during the day. She spends most of the day fussing, grunting, and straining (gas?) until she exhausts herself and falls asleep for an hour or so. We're hoping she can work out the kinks in her system soon and feel better. I think she's really just wishing she was still in the womb, and isn't quite ready to embrace this new world she's in yet. Anyhow, Chris and I took turns bouncing her, rocking her, swinging her, and just generally trying to make her comfortable between naps and feedings. I'm starting to panic about next week when I won't have any help and Aiden's summer program is over! Wish me luck...

When she gets this look, Aiden always says "LOOK! She's so surprised I'm her big brother!"

A rare moment of awake calm for little miss fuss...

In just one week, I noticed changes in Haley. She seemed to take notice of things close up. It was a delight to hold her and help out. Haley's big brother Aiden was a help, too. He doesn't seem the least jealous. Can't wait to see everyone agian.

Ah, the corn maze. Fond memories. That first half hour is fun though. Any child-sized flavor-ices this time?

Even if she is fussy, Haley is still adorable! Hopefully things will work themselves out soon!
