Aiden's Groovy Tie-Dye Beach Party

We were away in VT for Aiden's actual birthday, so he wanted to celebrate with his friends at home another day.  We decided on an end-of-summer beach party with a tie-dye shirt creation activity...what could be simpler, right?  Well, it wasn't quite as simple as we bargained for, but thanks to Kyle, who helped with tie-dye logistics and supplies and Grandpa Dada, who watched Haley during the whole party so Andy and I could keep one eye on the water and the other on the dyeing process, it all came off smoothly.  As a group we tie-dyed about 30 shirts (some of the adults were just as excited as the kids) and besides pizza and cake we did not have to do anything else to entertain the kids with a whole lake, a beachful of sand to play in, and a playground to climb on.  That part of the party design worked flawlessly!  In fact, towards the end of the party the adults even got in a raucous game of full-tackle water football, with the kids swimming in and out between us trying to disrupt the game.

The shirts came out amazingly well too!  I'm excited to see Aiden's 2012 Birthday creation shirts on all the 5-6 year old New London kids in the coming year.  Grandpa Dada did not make a shirt (really, i think Haley kept him way too busy for that at the beach) but the kids thoroughly enjoyed having him around for the long weekend.  Aiden got a new basketball hoop for his birthday from his Grandpa, and they literally spent hours in the driveway shooting baskets and playing PIG and Around the World.  We will definitely get years of enjoyment out of that gift.  And, for once, it wasn't a sad goodbye when Grandpa Dada left this morning, since we will see him NEXT weekend on Long Island!  Double bonus!

This weekend was also the start of Fall Soccer!
